In South Florida, the sea is rising from below land, coming up through porous limestone. Therefore, communicating issues of rising seas can be tricky, especially because it’s hard to understand what’s hard to see.
VirtualEYES attempts to make this communication simpler by engaging citizens with what they don’t see (or hear) on an average day — from under water (and under ground).
One of our tools for visualizing sea level rise is an underwater mount (at right) that will allow for 360-underwater views. Another tool is an underwater microphone that will help us capture the sounds of South Florida waters. Combined with water sensors that capture changing data of our waters, this work can be presented as sounds and visuals that express our changing environments.
