Like never before, virtual reality allows viewers to enter a world of reality. “Abe VR” is a short virtual reality experience. The 7-minute VR film is about a misguided robot who tortures beautiful women who turn down his love. Through the VR lenses, you are able to experience his victims’ torture from a first person experience.
In the world of the short film, a robot named Abe was programmed to have emotions, but was not programmed to learn how to deal with them - especially when humans don’t reciprocate what he feels. After a while, he starts trying to “fix” them in order to rectify the rejection.
“Virtual reality can make the question of perspective incredibly literal,” says Abi Robertson of The Verge. “Abe’s final girl suffers a fairly grim fate, but there’s no ambiguity in who Abe VR wants you to identify with: you’re given a first-person view through her eyes.”
