MAST @ FIU has won the national STEM Excellence Award, which was presented Jan. 23 at the Florida Education Technology Conference (FETC) in Orlando. The national award is dedicated to educators who focus on science, technology, engineering, and math. (Read the story in FIU’s The Beacon).

eyesontherise.org has partnered with MAST @ FIU over the past semester on issues related to education, journalism, and the science involved in understanding sea level rise in South Florida. See some of the work we’ve done together here.

This is a great outcome for MAST @ FIU and a nod to the work that can be done through student collaboration with community and education partners. (eyesontherise.org is funded by the Online News Association’s 2014-2015 Challenge Fund for Innovation in Journalism Education.)

Congrats, students, staff, and faculty!

Also take a look at a video about MAST @ FIU produced by students in an eyesontherise.org-related course within the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at FIU.

Public relations and advertising students in Professor Robert Gutsche, Jr.’s class worked with MAST @ FIU students in Ms. Arleen Senas’ journalism class to produce this video, a version which was shared at FETC.
